Journey with the woman of the forest and its figures
Once when I was living in the heart of a pomegranate, I heard a seed saying,
«Someday I shall become a tree,
and the wind will sing in my branches,
and the sun will dance on my leaves,
and I shall be strong and beautiful through all the seasons.» Kahlil Gibran
A woman lived happily in the forest. In summer she swam in the pond and in winter she returned back into her cave; and to lighten the darkness, she told herself stories. One day the forest suddenly disappeared, so the woman packed up her stories in a suit-case and went off to search for the forest.
During a pause to rest she opens the suit-case and lets the characters of her narrations come alive. The storyline of Il bosco in valigia is based on the characters affectionate relationships interplaying between reality and imaginary, the attraction and longing of the dragon for the mysterious bird, a wierd goblins fun and jealousy with a siren.
The characters agitation is the conflict in their desire to stay together and yet their need to be free, including the woman, which pushes them to continue searching for the forest.
The narrator is also the puppeteer, using different voices and sounds for the communication among the puppets.
"... one day as a woman looks out of her cave, she discovers that the forest has disappeared. She packs up her fairy tales in a suit-case, and goes on a search. On the way she occasionally takes out one of her stories....
As in the past, the Teatro dei Fauni has carefully selected the theme and a successful theatrical medium. The young public is fascinated with the story, the characters and the magical tricks."
L.Ghiringhelli, Corriere del Ticino
"...The right magic and best theatrical skills appear when the suit-case is opened, and a mini theatre suddenly appears; hidden behind a tree, the narrator animates the characters and creates their diverse sounds, the very sweet small dragon, which is in love with a migratory bird; has his most desperate scene after the bird flies away."
